Expressive Arts Therapy
This emerging field integrates experiential
and creative learning with applied clinical psychological
practice. Expressive therapists integrate dance,
movement, drama, literature, poetry, music, visual arts and
play therapies with the practice of psychology and
psychotherapy. The arts can provide containers for
powerful emotions, serving as a bridge between ourselves and
others. Both adults and children benefit form
expressive therapies regardless of age, mobility, or
artistic talent/or experience.

Nutritional Psychology
This emerging field links biochemistry,
environment, emotions and addictions, recognizing the
interconnectedness and impact of each on the other, and
offers an innovative and successful approach to the
treatment of addictions, mood disorders, and food/weight
problems. Since 75-90 % of addicts of all kinds are
unable to sustain recovery or abstinence through traditional
treatment programs, nutritional psychology along with
integrative and functional medicine offers hope and
intervention where there had been little. Deborah Coulston has extensive experience treating food and mood
related disorders and addictions, integrating nutrient
therapies, whole food plans, and alternative and behavioral
medicine modalities along with conventional counseling and
education.

experience in the treatment of eating disorders, assisting
numerous individuals to achieve freedom from compulsive
eating/dieting disorders. In her private practice,
workshops and unique coaching programs, she offers an
alternative to chronic dieting and compulsive eating along
with customized recovery programs for overcoming obesity,
food, weight and dieting obsessions. Reclaiming Our
Whole Selves: A Daily Program for Healing from Eating
Disorders, along with Nourishing Body and Soul
and the Freedom Coaching Program, each offer a
multi-faceted approach to eating and dieting disorders.

Marital and Family Therapy
Deborah Coulston brings a dynamic counseling style to the
therapy process coaching both couples and families toward
healthier relationships. Couples and family counseling
is appropriate for those in crisis as well as for those
simply seeking to improve the quality of their
relationships. While couple’s and families are faced,
with at times, overwhelming challenges, the family remains
the primary source of support, esteem and nurturance
throughout the developmental stages of life.
Family
therapy can help to address these challenges and crises and
foster positive interaction among members. In
addition, individual counseling is often greatly enhanced by
including family members in the process of change. Marital
and family therapy can help provide support, teach specific
communication/ or parenting skills and help each individual
to feel nurtured and valued within their most important
relationships.

Stress Reduction Training
The acclaimed science of mind-body medicine
is highly successful in decreasing both physical and
psychological symptoms associated with many acute and
chronic conditions. A wide variety of medical patients
can benefit from stress reduction training including those
seeking adjunct therapies for heart disease, weight
management, cancer, anxiety/panic disorders, depression,
post traumatic stress disorder, HIV/AIDS, addictions and
many others. Ms. Coulston has successfully adapted her
training to meet the diverse needs of both individuals and
groups, whether they are seeking reduced stress in daily
living, enhanced productivity in the work place, or are
coping with chronic pain or major debilitating conditions.

Pastoral Counseling
For individuals wishing to incorporate their
spiritual/or religious practice or faith tradition within
the context of the counseling experience, and for those who
seek to develop a spiritual foundation as part of their
recovery process, pastoral counseling provides a safe and
supportive environment for individual, couples or family
therapy.

Addictions and Compulsive Disorders
Addiction is a multi-factorial
disease with psychosocial, genetic, biological,
behavioral,
spiritual and metabolic components. The most significant
mechanism of this disease process is manifest through the
neurophysiological insult on the Reward Deficiency Syndrome
within the brain. The medical model or disease concept of
addiction establishes the Brain Reward Cascade as the
hallmark of compulsive disorders as well as the five
addictions: Chemical, Food, Work, Sex and Gambling.
Simply put,
addictions result in a devastating phenomenon in the brain
wrecking havoc on minds, bodies and spirits, and more often
than not shattering individuals and whole families.
To meet this overwhelming challenge, Deborah Coulston and
The family Wellness Center offer primary and adjunct
intervention, treatment and management of addictions and
compulsive disorders through a variety of unique programs
including nutritional and neutriceutical therapies,
auriculotherapy, individual and group counseling, addictions
counseling, family therapy, and integrative and behavioral
medicine.
